Wdomino Invents a New Trick: The Colorchanging Inverted Piano Technique

A domino trick from another builder caught Wdomino’s eye: the technique looked similar to the Piano technique, but he saw room to take it further. For his Domino Dimensions 2026 clip, Wdomino turned it into what he calls the Colorchanging Inverted Piano Technique. His version uses a herringbone-like arrangement, with upright dominoes resting on others to create a different kind of topple. As the dominoes topple, they uncover a blue pattern beneath the original one, changing the look of the whole build without painting a single domino. In his new video, Wdomino shares the tests and ideas that led from that first spark to the finished clip.

19th Annual Domino Toppling Extravaganza at the BMAC

The BMAC’s annual Domino Toppling Extravaganza returns on November 8. This year, Lily Hevesh, Chris Wright, Michael Fantauzzo, and Brady Dolan will build a display with thousands of dominoes in the two days leading up to the event. Be sure to reserve your tickets are available in advance - walk-ins are only admitted if space allows. Guess how many dominoes were set up, and if you’re closest, you could be the one to start the topple!

Clarity for Two Pyramid Records

When we featured Mr.J 01’s 35×35 quarter pyramid last month, Lily noticed that there was another technique in the Domino & Machine Records Database that used a nearly identical name. DominoSRX also called his world record a quarter pyramid, yet this was a different building technique. Mr.J 01 explained on Discord that his structure forms one quarter of a full 3D pyramid, while other builders pointed out how DominoSRX’s pyramid technique differs. After some discussion and a poll about DominoSRX’s version, we settled on calling Mr. J01’s build a “1/4 pyramid” and DominoSRX’s a “tall 3D pyramid”. The names make it easier to tell the two records apart and avoid confusion. Thanks to everyone who helped sort it out!
